Tips on
Buying Baby Rattles
There is nothing more important
that buying a quality baby rattle for your infant. A rattle is not only
a toy. It can calm an irritable baby by offering a soft sound as well
as a distraction.

The first consideration must be
safety. Peruse the toy recall list prior to shopping to find out if
there are any rattles on the list. A rattle should not have any small
pieces that will break off due to it being a choking hazard for a baby.
Babies tend to put everything in their mouth so rattles should be
checked for any lead paint content.
The next consideration is to
select a rattle that is age as well as developmentally compatible. For
example, newborns are not physically able to grasp. The solution is to
buy wrist and boot rattles. These soft rattles go around a baby’s wrist
or ankle. A newborn will delight in the ability to create sound by
moving an arm or a leg.

Once a baby is out of the
newborn stage, the choice of rattles expands. Babies respond well to
contrast colors such as black and white. They also are drawn to
brightly hued rattles such as red and orange.
